Quickdraw: Bleached, Spider Bags, White Fence, Honeyblood, Menace Beach

Music!  Enjoy.

:Bleached – For The Feel:  Bleached have a three-song 7″ on the way, and this is the title track.  Because it’s just what they do better than most and there’s no reason to change anything, it’s a really catchy surf rock number.  The For The Feel 7″ is due out on September 16 via Dead Oceans.

:Spider Bags – Japanese Vacation:  I’m quickly figuring out that the fellas behind Spider Bags really know how to write a hook.  No wonder Merge recently snatched them up.  The label will release the highly anticipated Frozen Letter on August 5.

:White Fence – Like That:  I’ve long been a fan of White Fence and their lo-fi ways, but I’m sort of excited by the news that Tim Presley (with Ty Segall) opted to step everything up for the new album.  As this song shows, a cleaner sound actually fits the act well.  To The Recently Found Innocent is due out July 22 via Drag City.

:Honeyblood – Super Rat:  Shona McVicar and Stina Tweeddale are the duo behind Honeyblood, and this song features them being really pissed with someone.  “I will hate you forever/You really do disgust me.”  Props to them on the grudge-holding front.  The band will release their self titled album on July 15 via FatCat Records.

:Menace Beach – Tennis Court:  There’s a distinct 90s rock vibe all over this track from Menace Beach, and I’m really digging it.  I’d like to hear more from the band as soon as possible.  Look for the Tennis Court/Lowtalking 7″ on September 1 via Memphis Industries.

White Fence

White Fence seem to suddenly be everywhere.  They dominated my weekend with a song they released late on Friday, and then yesterday they tried to devour my free time by putting up a full stream of their new album.  And this is all minus the fact that they’ll soon be in town for Austin Psych Fest!  I can’t escape them.  Fortunately though, I’m okay with that.  Cyclops Reap is out today via Castle Face.  Enjoy.

:White Fence – To The Boy I Jumped In The Hemlock Alley:  All you really need to know about this song is that it’s one of those kind that makes me want to lay on the floor, zone out, and listen to old psych records all day.

Quickdraw: Kurt Vile, Anamanaguchi, Good Graeff, White Fence, Black Milk

March 25, 2013

Today’s music ain’t afraid of no ghosts.  Enjoy.

:Kurt Vile – Never Run Away:  This track served as the pleasant surprise of my weekend.  It’s light and as sing-a-long worthy as can be, and I don’t have issue at all with calling it my favorite Kurt Vile effort.  Walkin’ On A Pretty Daze is due out on April 9 via Matador.

:Anamanaguchi – Planet:  If you’ve ever thought of Anamanaguchi as a band that only makes nerdy video game songs, then this track will certainly change your mind.  Unless, of course, you happen to hate pretty dance numbers.  Endless Fantasy will be released on May 14.

:Good Graeff – Hold Me Fast:  Fellow blogger Jared Hoke (5 Acts) has started Echo Dive Music, and the first act he’s working with is Good Graeff.  The twin sisters have a super solid folk pop sound that I think you’ll like.  The duo hope to put out an EP later this year, but first they need to complete their Kickstarter.  Help?

:White Fence – Fragility:  I really dig this low key pop track, and I’m a little bummed that it’s not on White Fence’s upcoming album.  Oh well.  You can find this song as the b-side on the Pink Gorilla 7″.  Cyclops Reap is due out on April 9, and the band will play Austin Psych Fest on April 28.

:Black Milk – Sunday’s Best – Monday’s Worst:  I was really excited to see a new Black Milk track pop up last week.  The guy just always churns out some of the most interesting hip hop around.  A new full length is expected to be released at some point later this year.

Quickdraw: Purity Ring, Big Deal, La Luz, White Fence, Youth Lagoon

February 19, 2013

Today’s music would like to show you the world.  Enjoy.

:Purity Ring – Grammy (Soulja Boy Cover):  I’m not all a fan of Soulja Boy, but somehow he keeps finding his way onto my site.  Weird.  Anyhow, this cover has instantly become a huge guilty pleasure for me.  Blast it, friends.  This track was released to promote Purity Ring’s upcoming tour.  See the dates here.

:Big Deal – Teradactol:  While I liked last year’s Lights Out, I thought it had a variety of moments where it could have used a bigger sound.  This single says Big Deal felt the same way, and now I’m excited to check out their sophomore effort.  June Gloom is due June 4 via Mute.

:La Luz – Call Me In The Day:  The fancy folks over at Burger Records have a release schedule for February that includes 16 cassettes from a wide range of artists.  This song is off La Luz’s Damp Face EP (currently available), and it’s one hell of a charming, hooky pop number.

:White Fence – Pink Gorilla:  Prefer your psych rock to be accessible and laced with catchy retro vocals?  Then I think you’re going to really dig this new White Fence track.  Cyclops Reap is due out April 9 via Castleface.  The band is also set to play Psych Fest on April 28.

:Youth Lagoon – Mute:  I think it’s safe to say that Youth Lagoon can currently lay claim to having one of the year’s most anticipated albums.  Dropla was a great song, and now there’s this swirling gem.  Wondrous Bughouse is due March 5 via Fat Possum.
