Quickdraw: Deafheaven, Dry Cleaning, Sleigh Bells, Illuminati Hotties, Matt Berninger, Dummy, Public Service Broadcasting, Lunar Vacation, Cold Beat, Hand Habits

I was out working Lollapalooza last week, so there’s a bit of catch-up going on here. Enjoy.

Deafheaven – In Blue

This new one from Deafheaven swirls around in the most intoxicating of ways. The band will release an album titled Infinite Granite on August 20.

Dry Cleaning – Bug Eggs / Tony Speaks!

Dry Cleaning’s New Long Leg is one of my favorite albums of 2021, so I was really excited to see them drop a new double single. I’m pretty sure I could listen to Florence Shaw chatter on forever.

Sleigh Bells – Locust Laced

Without a doubt, this is the best Sleigh Bells track I’ve heard in a very long time – it’s super hooky and has plenty of righteous riffs. The band’s new album, Texis, will be out on September 10.

Illuminati Hotties – U V V P (Featuring Buck Meek)

This one may show a softer side of the usually fierce Illuminati Hotties, but it’s still pretty dang catchy. I remain very, very excited for their upcoming album, Let Me Do One More (due out October 1).

Matt Berninger – I’m Waiting For The Man (Velvet Underground Cover)

Here’s Matt Berninger’s contribution to I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute To The Velvet Underground & Nico (due out on September 24). It’s pretty slick, and I like it.

Dummy – Daffodils

Trouble In Mind have added Dummy to their roster, and they’re going to put out the band’s new album, Mandatory Enjoyment, on October 22. This first single is a wildly good slice of indie pop.

Public Service Broadcasting – Blue Heaven (Featuring Andreya Casablanca)

Andreya Casablanca (of Gurr) really turns in some inspired vocal work on this anthemic track from Public Service Broadcasting. The act’s new album, Bright Magic, is set to be released on September 24.

Lunar Vacation – Mold

Lunar Vacation have finally let loose of the title and release date for their debut albumInside Every Fig Is A Dead Wasp is coming on October 29. Expect this vibrant pop tune to lodge itself in your head.

Cold Beat – Mandelbrot Fall

The synth-work throughout this single from Cold Beat is just fantastic. The band’s new album, War Garden, is due out on September 17.

Hand Habits – Aquamarine

Hand Habits just announced Fun House, their new album that’s set to be released on October 22. The lush production here is a real ear-pleaser.

  1. Jay says:

Nice work, John. Longest Quickdraw ever? 7 of 9 are playlist worthy to my ears.

Has it really been 11 years since Sleigh Bills peaked with “Rill Rill”? That might make me feel older than buying “London Calling” on release when I was a senior in high school.

Hope you enjoyed Lolla. The lineup seemed uninspiring. Please share your discoveries with us.
