Quickdraw: Vampire Weekend, Screaming Females, Marnie Stern, Glimmer, A Place To Bury Strangers, DIIV, English Teacher, Mei Semones, Winnetka Bowling League, Shannon And The Clams
Enjoy.
Vampire Weekend – Capricorn / Gen-X Cops
I liked these Vampire Weekend songs when they were first released but now I’ve come around to loving them. What nice layers! The band’s new album, Only God Was Above Us, is due out April 5. They’ve also got a big tour coming up that includes two stops in Austin – April 8 at the Moody Amphitheater and October 17 at the Moody Center.
Screaming Females – Swallow The World
Screaming Females recently called it quits (I will remain bummed) and their final release is a previously hard-to-get EP titled Clover. The little ticker over at Bandcamp says there are only 10 copies left, so you should grab one before they’re all gone.
Marnie Stern – Sixteen
Marnie Stern put out her first album (The Comeback Kid) in a long, long time last year, and now she’s released a bonus track from those sessions. Naturally, it rips.
Glimmer – Buried
There’s this band out of Houston that I like a lot called Narrow Head, and Glimmer remind me of them – it’s a bit of grunge, shoegaze, and 90s alt rock all rolled into one thing. Check out this new tune from them and then join me in waiting on an album announcement.
A Place To Bury Strangers – Change Your God
I’m really digging this slinky (but still noisy, of course) number from A Place To Bury Strangers. They’ve got a monthly 7″ series titled The Sevens that’s starting up, and the one that this track belongs to will be out this Friday, February 23.
DIIV – Brown Paper Bag
Frog In Boiling Water is such a perfect title for a band that sounds as dreamy and shoegazey as DIIV. The LP is coming out on May 24, and I’m eager to give it a go.
English Teacher – R&B
Here’s English Teacher with one of my favorite post-punk songs of the year (so far). The band’s new album, This Could Be Texas, will be released on April 12.
Mei Semones – Inaka
I continue to find myself enamored with this intricate indie rock track from Mei Semones. Her EP, Kabutomushi, is due out April 5.
Winnetka Bowling League – Sha La La
Winnetka Bowling League just dropped their first new tune of the year, and it’s a super slick affair. Here’s hoping there’s more to come soon.
Shannon And The Clams – Bean Fields
Shannon And The Clams will put out their new album, The Moon Is In The Wrong Place, on May 10. I’ve been jamming the previous single a lot, and this jangly gem here is about to get just as much play.
