Top 25 Albums Of 2022
And now, my Top 25 Albums of 2022! As I mentioned in my Top 50 Songs post, these are in no particular order. Enjoy.
Alvvays – Blue Rev
What a triumphant return for Alvvays. Also, this album is always an easy go-to, which I appreciate.
Automatic – Excess
Automatic with a wonderfully crafted set of synth pop-leaning tracks.
And So I Watch You From Afar – Jettison
A soaring post-rock effort from And So I Watch You From Afar.
The Beths – Expert In A Dying Field
Another endlessly listenable effort from The Beths. This band is something else.
Brutus – Unison Life
Intense and heavy and awesome work here from Brutus.
Carly Rae Jepsen – The Loneliest Time
Carley Rae Jepsen’s latest is a bit all over the place, but – for me – that just made it more endearing.
Danger Mouse & Black Thought – Cheat Codes
Danger Mouse and Black Thought with the best collaboration of the year.
Dry Cleaning – Stumpwork
A more than worthy follow-up to last year’s excellent New Long Leg. Dry Cleaning have quickly become one of my favorite bands.
Enumclaw – Save The Baby
Enumclaw with a confident and cool debut.
Fontaines D.C. – Skinty Fia
This album from Fontaines D.C. isn’t exactly what I would describe as accessible, but once you let it settle, you just want more and more of it.
Gang Of Youths – Angel In Realtime
There really wasn’t a single that stood out on this Gang of Youths album, but it sure does work as a complete listen.
Good Looks – Bummer Year
An excellent debut from Austin’s own Good Looks.
Horsegirl – Versions Of Modern Performance
Horsegirl actually managed to live up to all of the hype around them. I’m excited to see what they do next.
Maggie Rogers – Surrender
An engaging listen from Maggie Rogers.
Nilufer Yanya – Painless
Such a creative, easily accessible listen from Nilufer Yanya. Side note, she also put on one of the best live performances I saw in 2022.
Rosalia – Motomami
I honestly don’t know how many times I listened to this album – it was a lot, especially in my car. Rosalia is a gem.
Sorry – Anywhere But Here
Another great album here from Sorry. They may be the most versatile, inventive act around.
Soul Glo – Diaspora Problems
Fierce and poignant work from Soul Glo.
Spice – Viv
Spice with another great straight up rock effort.
Spoon – Lucifer On The Sofa
In case you were wondering whether Spoon – after nearly 30 years of existence – still have it, the answer is a resounding yes.
TV Priest – My Other People
A rather adventurous post-punk affair from TV Priest.
Taylor Swift – Midnights
Taylor Swift is so wildly prolific – it’s very impressive. As is this album, which is just all-around great pop effort.
Wet Leg – Self Titled
I defaulted to this Wet Leg album a lot in 2022 – it’s just such a fun listen.
Why Bonnie – 90 In November
Why Bonnie with a strong dose of comfort indie rock.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Cool It Down
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are still really damn cool.
