Quickdraw: Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent, Alex Lahey, Jim Ward, The Goon Sax, Torres

Enjoy.

Sleater-Kinney – Worry With You

It was a real nice surprise to see my super favs Sleater-Kinney announce a new album this week. It’s called Path To Wellness, it’s due out June 11, and it’s the first SK album produced by the band. Here’s a catchy tune from the LP.

St. Vincent – Down

The lead up to the new St. Vincent album has felt long, right? Anyhow, Daddy’s Home is finally out this Friday. This is a weird, funky little number, but I think it might be the best single released so far.

Alex Lahey – On My Way

Here’s a track that indie rocker Alex Lahey did for the recently released (and well received) Netflix movie The Mitchells Vs The Machines. It’s very endearing.

Side note, Alex Lahey’s cover of Faith Hill’s This Kiss is one of my favorite tracks of the year, but it’s unfortunately buried in Amazon Music. Boo.

Jim Ward – I Got A Secret (Featuring Shawna Potter)

Jim Ward (Sparta, At The Drive-In) has a new album, Daggers, coming out on June 11. I’m all about how aggressive this track is.

Fun Fact: I once casually hung out with Jim Ward for a week and had no idea it was Jim Ward.

The Goon Sax – In The Stone

I’ve never been all that into The Goon Sax, but I’m loving this off-kilter pop track from their upcoming album, Mirror II (due out July 9).

Torres – Don’t Go Puttin Wishes In My Head

Torres has already put together a follow-up to last year’s Silver Tongue – it’s titled Thirstier and it’s set to be released on July 30. Here’s the fantastic first single, which is a big, sparkling number.

Love the Alex Lahey track. It is actually available on Spotify.

Good Sax cut is good although nothing they do will ever top 2018’s splendid “We Can’t Win.”

Oh. My bad. Another reason to dislike Bezos? 😀

Related, I think the Lahey track here will make my year end best of. I really like it. Definitely on the short list. Thx for posting it.

Speaking of unavailable covers. As much as I dislike Fiona, I love her cover of the Waterboys “Whole of the Moon” and am frustrated that it’s unavailable on Spotify.
