Quickdraw: Sufjan Stevens, Washed Out, Future Islands, The Beths, Fontaines DC, Bully

Enjoy.

Sufjan Stevens – America

I’ve never been the biggest Sufjan Stevens fan, so you know it’s coming from a real place when I say that I absolutely love this 12-minute track that he just put out. It’s not only a poignant effort – as Sufjan notes, it’s “a protest song against the sickness of American culture in particular” – but it’s also a dynamic listen. The Ascension is due out September 25.

Washed Out – Time To Walk Away

Even after all these years, Washed Out is still releasing chillwave gems. Way to be, Ernest Greene. His new album, Purple Noon, is due out on August 7.

Future Islands – For Sure

Future Islands are back with a new single. Frankly, it sounds like everything else they’ve ever released, but that’s not at all a bad thing. On a different note, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak provides some backing vocals here.

The Beths – Out Of Sight

Don’t forget that The Beths’ new album, Jump Rope Gazers, is out this Friday! I’ve had it for a long while and can confirm that it’s a good one. The latest single is below (and the previous ones are here and here).

Fontaines DC – Televised Mind

There’s been a real mood emblazoned across all of the recent Fontaines DC singles, and I continue to be 100% in sync with it. Can’t wait to hear the upcoming album, A Hero’s Death (due out July 31).

Bully – Every Tradition

Here’s the latest off of Bully’s new LP, SUGAREGG (due out August 21). It offers up a good dose of attitude and is really hooky – I like it a lot.
