Quickdraw: Protomartyr, Truth Club, Juan Waters, Sacred Paws, Patience

I’m not yet ready to think about live shows, so here’s another five tracks out of my inbox.  Enjoy.

Protomartyr – Jumbo’s

Good news!  Protomartyr are reissuing their debut album, No Passion All Technique, on May 3.  It’s long been out of print, so I’m happy to finally be able to get my hands on it.  Here’s an interesting bit from the press release.

When Protomartyr—vocalist Joe Casey, guitarist Greg Ahee, bassist Scott Davidson, drummer Alex Leonard—stepped into a studio together for the first time, in November of 2011, they didn’t know they were about to record an album. With only four hours of studio time booked and one case of beer between them, their plan was to walk out with enough songs for a seven-inch single. Instead, at the suggestion of engineer Chris Koltay, the newly formed Detroit outfit recorded as much as they possibly could, in what little time they had.

They left with 21 songs—enough material for two singles *and* a full-length album that, years later, is still vital listening.

Truth Club

Truth Club are the latest addition to the Tiny Engines roster, and their debut album, Not An Exit, will be out on May 3.  Real solid indie rock sound here on the first single.

Juan Wauters – Letter

Here’s a real charmer from Juan Wauters.  Definitely looking forward to his upcoming album, Introducing Juan Pablo (due May 31).

Sacred Paws – The Conversation

There’s some snazzy guitar work on display in this new one from Sacred Paws.  The band’s sophomore album, Run Around The Sound, will be out on May 31.

Patience – The Girls Are Chewing Gum

Patience, which is led by Roxanne Clifford (formerly of Veronica Falls), is all set to put out her debut LP, Dizzy Spells, on May 5.  Sounds like it’s going to be a synth-filled good time.
