Quickdraw: Chelsea Light Moving, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Sondre Lerche, Sundress, The Mountain Goats
Today’s music was found using Google Maps. Enjoy.
:Chelsea Light Moving – Frank O’Hara Hit: At some point this Thurston Moore-lead project is going to put out an official album, and I’ll be there to throw my money at them. The three tracks released so far (this one arrived in celebration of Moore turning 54) have all been great pieces of indie rock. If anything does come out, it’ll by way of Matador.
:Letting Up Despite Great Faults – Visions: I wasn’t aware of this, but apparently this act is now largely based in Austin. Why haven’t they called me to hang out? Bummer. Anyhow, this dreamy pop number has instantly become one of my favorite songs by LUDGF. The band is all set to release Untogether on October 9 through their Bandcamp page.
:Sondre Lerche – Boxing Day: This guy has always been a hit or miss kind of artist for me, but I think it’s pretty cool that he’s re-releasing his first four albums. Naturally, the discs are now populated with bonus tracks and outtakes, and this gentle pop tune is one of them. The LPs will be available on September 4, and he will be playing in Austin at Stubb’s on September 29.
:Sundress – California Dames: About a year ago these guys put out a pretty solid EP, and now they’re back with a little two song effort. I’ve only heard this one track, but it’s psych pop goodness, and I’m imagine the other tune is just as satisfactory. The California Dames/Pilot Wings 7″ is currently available in exchange for sweet cash over at White Iris Records.
:The Mountain Goats – Cry For Judas: The world loves the Mountain Goats, so I’m guessing you’ve probably already come across this song 100 times over the last few days. Still, it’s a good one, and there’s always that “better late than never” thing to justify sharing it. The band will release Transcendental Youth on October 2 via Merge Records.
