Quickdraw: Desaparecidos, Sweet John Bloom, Sweet Spirit And Britt Daniel, Annabel, La Luz

Music!  Enjoy.

:Desaparecidos – Backsell:  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, returning to Desaparecidos is the best (and most inspired) thing that Conor Oberst has done in years.  Unsurprisingly, this latest single rips.  Payola is due out June 23 via Epitaph.

:Sweet John Bloom – Night Thing:  I really dig this 90s-ish bit of power pop from Sweet John Bloom.  As I’ve mentioned previously, their debut LP could end up being a really good one.  Weird Prayer is due out in June via Tiny Engines.

:Sweet Spirit And Britt Daniel – Paper Tiger:  This juiced up Spoon cover is the b-side to the one-off track that Sweet Spirit and Britt Daniel did together.  It really makes me want the two acts to join up for much more.  You can find the 7″ at Spoon/Sweet Spirit shows.

:Annabel – Having It All:  Here’s another transfixing single from the emo-leaning Annabel.  I will surprised and disappointed if their upcoming album doesn’t end up on my best-of list at the end of the year.  Having It All is due out in June via Tiny Engines.

:La Luz – You Disappear:  Ty Segall produced this new one from La Luz.  It’s a fuzzy three and a half minute surf pop effort that’s completely inviting and accessible.  Jump into it.  Weirdo Shrine is due out August 7 via Hardly Art.

Quickdraw: Titus Andronicus, Dog Party, Sweet John Bloom, Tame Impala, Leon Bridges

Music!  Enjoy.

:Titus Andronicus – Dimed Out:  Titus Andronicus are back with a new album that’s reportedly a 28-song, 93-minute rock opera.  It sounds insane, so I want and need it now.  This first single is a raucous beast.  The Most Lamentable Tragedy is due out July 28 via Merge.

:Dog Party – Peanut Butter Dream:  Back in 2013 Dog Party put out a pretty solid album by the name of Lost Control.  This fuzzy gem has me thinking the follow-up will be better.  Vol. 4 is due out June 16 via Burger Records/Asian Man Records.

:Sweet John Bloom – Tell Me:  This blip of a song (it’s barely a minute and a half long) is pretty damn infectious.  I have high hopes for Sweet John Bloom’s upcoming album, which is titled Weird Prayer and is due out in June via Tiny Engines.

:Tame Impala – Disciples:  A request for a new Tame Impala track went out during a Reddit AMA, and the band delivered.  How nice.  As for this song, it’s a shimmering pop effort that will leave you wanting more.  Currents will be out later this year via Interscope.

:Leon Bridges – River:  Here’s the latest work of beauty from Leon Bridges.  I’m not sure he has it in him to create anything that isn’t stunning.  Coming Home is due out June 23 via Columbia.  See him at Stubb’s on May 11 with Lord Huron.

Quickdraw: Icky Blossoms, Guantanamo Baywatch, BLXPLTN, Sweet John Bloom, Braid

Music!  Enjoy.

:Icky Blossoms – Living in Fiction:  I’ve fully gone from shrugging my shoulders at Icky Blossoms to being rather excited for their sophomore LP.  The new stuff just has a rad kick to it.  Mask is due out May 12 via Saddle Creek.

:Guantanamo Baywatch – Do What You Want:  Everything about Guantanamo Baywatch is gloriously retro (think these words in particular – surf, soul, garage), and I really dig it.  I’ll be surprised if I don’t end up adoring their new album.  Darling … It’s Too Late is due out May 12 via Suicide Squeeze.

:BLXPLTN – Auf Wiedersehen:  This song is BLXPLTN’s “tribute to those whose lives were innocently taken by the police force.”  Gotta love a strong message like that, right?  The Austin-based act’s sophomore album will be out later this year.

:Sweet John Bloom – Moving Target:  I came across this energetic slice of indie rock while digging around in my inbox this weekend.  It’s good enough to make Sweet John Bloom a name worth noting.  Weird Prayer will be out later this year via Tiny Engines.

:Braid – Kids Get Grids:  Here’s the latest solid track to slip out of Braid’s comeback campaign.  I think the reemerged emo scene needs vets like them, so hopefully they’ll keep churning out new stuff.  The Kids Get Grids 7″ is due out on Record Store Day.
