Quickdraw: Sylvan Esso, Lo Tom, The Ophelias, Traams, Daniel Romano’s Outfit, Tropical Fuck Storm

Enjoy.

Sylvan Esso – Rooftop Dancing

My roof is in no way a good spot to dance, but this track (and the video for it) is so charming and inviting that it makes me want to crawl up there and give it a go. Sylvan Esso will release Free Love on September 25.

Lo Tom – Start Payin’

David Bazan, Jason Martin, TW Walsh and Trey Many are back as Lo Tom, and that’s a very good thing. Side note, it’s funny to me that the band is funding their sophomore album via Kickstarter and the first single is called Start Payin’.

The Ophelias – Grand Canyon

The Ophelias have set August 26 as the release date for their new four-song EP, For Luck. The “it’s definitely a product of quarantine” line in the press release for this somber-but-great single really got me – I have a feeling we’ll be seeing that noted a lot over the next year or two.

“Grand Canyon was written the morning after David Berman died. I woke up from a sunset-colored, panoramic dream and wrote the first two verses down still half-asleep. The rest came soon after. We recorded it remotely, half of us in Ohio and half of us in New York. John was able to put our at-home recordings together and work some mixing magic. It’s definitely a product of quarantine – using what we had at home and working together, even just virtually.” – Spencer Peppet of The Ophelias

Traams – The Greyhound

This nearly 10-minute track from Traams is the first new piece of music from them in five years. If you ask me, that’s a hell of a way to announce you’re back. The band did not release any album details alongside this sprawling effort, but I assume that one is on the way.

Daniel Romano’s Outfit – A Rat Without A Tale

Here’s a really nice slice of psych rock from Daniel Romano’s Outfit. The act will release How Ill Thy World Is Ordered on September 18.

Tropical Fuck Storm – Legal Ghost

First of all, the name Tropical Fuck Storm is great. Secondly, this track is weird and rad in all the right ways. The band will put out a 7″ on September 11.
