Quickdraw: PUP, Dehd, Black Midi, MUNA, Ducks Ltd, Jeanines, Soccer Mommy, Party Dozen

Enjoy.

PUP – Totally Fine

The new PUP album, The Unraveling of PUPTheBand, is out next week (Friday, April 1), and I’m more than ready for it. Here’s the latest single – it’s a banger, of course. For those in Austin, they’re playing Stubb’s on April 29.

Dehd – Stars

This is such an infectious pop tune. Dehd will release their new album, Blue Skies, on May 27. Also, Austin folks, they’re playing the Mohawk on May 13.

Black Midi – Love Story (Taylor Swift Cover)

Black Midi just dropped a covers EP called Cavalcovers. I for sure thought their take on Taylor Swift’s Love Story was going to be super weird, but it’s actually pretty straight up (and fantastic).

MUNA – Anything But Me

I kept hoping to catch MUNA at SXSW, but it never worked out. Bummer. On the bright side, they’ve put out a new single and announced their self-titled debut album (due out June 24).

Ducks Ltd – Head On (Featuring Illuminati Hotties) (Jesus And Mary Chain Cover)

Ducks Ltd just announced a series of covers called The Sincerest Form of Flattery, and the first release is this Jesus and Mary Chain tune. Naturally, they’ve made it into a jangly gem.

Jeanines – Don’t Wait For A Sign

Here’s the title track off the new Jeanines album that’s coming out on April 22. It’s a must-listen for indie pop fans.

Soccer Mommy – Shotgun

Soccer Mommy just announced a Oneohtrix Point Never-produced album, Sometimes, Forever (due out June 24). I’m digging the bolder sound on the first single here.

Party Dozen – The Iron Boot

Party Dozen recently signed to Temporary Residence, and now they’ve announced a new album titled The Real Work (due out July 8). This track features a huge wall of sound, and I love it.

    Hey John,

Only recently discovered your site. Thanks for the great pointers. Some pretty cool bands on here I’ve never heard of here in Belgium, Europe.
    Keep up the good work.
Have you heard the latest Fontaines D.C., Skinty Fia. Just love that parlando over the dark bass line. An absolute killer this song.

One to check out maybe for you. Don’t think you will know ‘Damso’. Belgian artist and extremely popular in French speaking part of Belgium and France.
Best songs of him: 911, E. Morose and Démons (feat. Angèle)
