Quickdraw: Yumi Zouma, Guerilla Toss, Methyl Ethel, Empath, Holm, Widowspeak, Fontaines D.C., Gang Of Youths, Mitski, Aldous Harding
The music is back! Enjoy.
Yumi Zouma – In The Eyes Of Our Love
Indie pop act Yumi Zouma’s new album is titled Present Tense, and it’ll be out on March 18. I love the way this first single moves, plus it’s super catchy.
Guerilla Toss – Cannibal Capital
Get yourself a dose of art rock via this new one from Guerilla Toss. By the way, the band just signed to Sub Pop and their next album, Famously Alive, will be out on March 25.
Methyl Ethel – Proof (Featuring Stella Donnelly)
Methyl Ethel’s Matters landed on my Top 50 Songs of 2021 list, and because of that I’m pretty excited to check out the act’s new album, Are You Haunted? (due out February 18). Here’s the latest electro-pop gem off of it.
Empath – Passing Stranger
This is easily the least noisy that I’ve ever heard Empath sound. I like it. The band will release an album titled Visitor on February 11.
Holm – The Rope
Mikkel Holm Silkjaer can usually be found fronting Yung, but now he’s also taken on the moniker of Holm and will release his solo debut, Why Don’t You Dance, on January 28. I really like the playful feel that’s all over this new single.
Widowspeak – Everything Is Simple
“Everything is simple until it’s not.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Widowspeak will release a new album, The Jacket, on March 11.
Fontaines D.C. – Jackie Down The Line
This is such a 90s-enthused effort (both the song and its video) from Fontaines D.C., and I’m very much into it. The band will release a new album, Skinty Fia, on April 22.
Gang Of Youths – In The Wake Of Your Leave
While I’ve liked all of the singles from Gang Of Youth’s impending album, Angel In Realtime (due out February 25), this is the first one that I actually really, really dig. It soars in a way that only they can.
Mitski – Love Me More
The new Mitski album, Laurel Hell, is nearly here – it’ll be out on February 4. Like with Gang of Youths up above, this is easily my favorite single off of the LP (so far). What a chorus.
Aldous Harding – Lawn
First of all, I love that the new Aldous Harding album is titled Warm Chris (due out March 25). Secondly, this slinkly little number is a real ear-pleaser.
