Quickdraw: Modest Mouse, Squid, Mannequin Pussy, Iceage, Enumclaw, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Faye Webster, Kings Of Convenience, Bachelor, Mui Zyu

I was out of town for work last week, so there’s stuff from then + plenty of new things. Enjoy!

Modest Mouse – We Are Between

Modest Mouse just announced their first album in six years! It’s called The Golden Casket and it’s due out on June 25. This first single doesn’t feature anything too adventurous or surprising, but I like it.

Squid – Pamphlets

I’ve had Squid’s debut album, Bright Green Field, on repeat from the moment it landed in my inbox a few weeks ago. It’s such a burst of energy! I highly recommend that you grab it when it gets released this Friday.

Mannequin Pussy – Perfect

First of all, it’s been cool to see Mannequin Pussy’s name and music in the HBO Max show Mare Of Easttown. Secondly, this song rips. The band will put out the Perfect EP on May 21.

Iceage – Gold City

Like Squid (further up in this post), Iceage are set to release a very anticipated album, Seek Shelter, this Friday. Make sure you scoop it up.

Enumclaw – Cents

If you’re a fan of noisy indie rock and have not yet checked out Enumclaw’s very recently released EP, Jimbo Demo, then you should get on that.

We Were Promised Jetpacks – If It Happens

“I feel that ‘If It Happens’ expresses a lot about what I had been trying to get across to myself. It was all part of my new mindset of trying to be more positive about what I have and not always thinking about what I don’t. It’s about embracing the idea of happiness, doing what you can to encourage it and generally be a lot more ‘c’est la vie’ about everything. If it happens, it happens; if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. What can you do?”  – Adam Thompson

This will be a good approach to keep in mind as we roll out of this pandemic. We Were Promised Jetpacks have a new 7″ coming on June 29.

Faye Webster – Cheers

I won’t lie, I was really hoping that this new Faye Webster track was about the TV show Cheers. Maybe next time? Anyhow, I’m pumped that she has a new album on the way – it’s titled I Know I’m Funny haha and it’ll be here on June 25.

Kings Of Convenience – Rocky Trail

Peace Or Love (due out June 18) is what Kings Of Convenience have titled their first album in 12 years. ‘Lovely’ is pretty much the only way to describe this first track from it.

Bachelor – Sick Of Spiraling

With every new single that comes along, I get more and more excited for Bachelor’s upcoming album, Doomin’ Sun (due out May 28). Side note – just in case you forgot – this band features Jay Som’s Melina Duterte and Palehound’s Ellen Kempner.

Mui Zyu – Pour A Brain

Mui Zyu is the latest artist to join the roster over at Father/Daughter Records. Headphones are a good idea for this one, that way it can drip directly into your skull.

Kings of Convenience are back! Everything they do is lovely. Perfect track for a summer evening on the deck.
