Quickdraw: Peach Kelli Pop, Body Double, HIRS, Deftones, The Budos Band, Amber Mark
Enjoy.
Peach Kelli Pop – Cut Me Off
I will always appreciate (and love) Peach Kelli Pop’s penchant for crafting super catchy tunes. The act will release the Lucky Star EP on October 7.
Body Double – Bitch On Wheels
I really like this creeping number from Body Double’s upcoming album, Milk Fed (due September 18). I also really like what the singer had to say about it:
“At around 30 years old, underground musicians start admitting they like very popular bands. It’s too exhausting being niche! I wrote “Bitch On Wheels” right after I was in an all-girl Nine Inch Nails cover band called Miss Piggy, and I was finally forced to love a synthesizer. This song heavily features an Akai AX60, which I like because it only listens to my instructions half the time.” – Candace Lazarou
HIRS & Marissa Paternoster – Push It (Garbage Cover)
HIRS just put out an EP called COVID Covers Vol. 1, and it’s got a couple of tracks that feature Marissa Paternoster (of Screaming Females). I’m all about their meaty take on this Garbage classic!
Deftones – Ohms
Holy hell, how is this band still this good? Deftones will release Ohms on September 25. Side note, I’ve been on a total Deftones-only kick for the last few days and it’s been fun to revisit their lengthy catalog.
The Budos Band – Gun Metal Grey
Once upon a time, I was pretty much obsessed with Daptone Records. Then the great Sharon Jones passed, and I sort of just moved on to other stuff. I don’t know if I’ll ever return to the previous level of fascination I had with the label, but this crisp track at least has me eager for The Budos Band’s impending album, Long In The Tooth (due out October 9).
Amber Mark – Thong Song (Sisqo Cover)
I only just came across Amber Mark’s slick house version of Sisqo’s Thong Song this morning, but I’ve already listened to it a ton. It just works! Turn it up.
