Quickdraw: Mr. Gnome, Secret Machines, Son Lux, Angel Olsen, Sprain, Fuzz
Enjoy.
Mr. Gnome – Psychonaut
The duo known as Mr. Gnome just announced their first release since 2014 – it’s a double album, The Day You Flew Away, and it’ll be out on October 16. The first track is a lush, catchy effort, and I like it a lot. It’s good to have them back.
Secret Machines – Everything Starts
I don’t know about you guys, but I continue to be pumped about Secret Machines returning to action. The latest single here has a very dreamy vibe and – wildly – it features the late Benjamin Curtis (he co-founded SM and School Of Seven Bells). Awake In The Brain Chamber is due out August 21.
Son Lux – Plans We Made
Son Lux just announced Tomorrows, a three-volume album that will be released over the course of a year (part one is due out August 14). I fell for this track and its Perfume Genius-esque sound right away.
Angel Olsen – Whole New Mess
Here’s a very intimate, low key effort from Angel Olsen. I have to say, I appreciate that I never know what she’s going to hit us with next. Whole New Mess is due out August 28.
Sprain – Constant Hum
First of all, kudos to Sprain for rolling out a 10-minute single. Secondly, their 90s-inspired, Pavement-like, post rock-ish sound continues to impress. I can’t wait to check out As Lost Through Collision when it’s released on September 4.
Fuzz – Returning
III is the new of Fuzz’s first album in five years, and you can expect it to be released on October 23. As has always been the case with these guys, you should turn the volume way up on this track.
