Quickdraw: Haim, Fiona Apple, Empty Country, Tacocat, Deerhunter

Enjoy.

Haim – Now I’m In It

I just about wrote Haim off after their last album, 2017’s super forgettable Something To Tell You, but I’m back on the bandwagon due to both of the stellar singles that they’ve put out this year.  Wonder when they’ll make an album announcement?

Fiona Apple – The Whole Of The Moon (The Waterboys Cover)

Fiona Apple is an all-time favorite of mine, so I’m always going to be excited about anything she does.  With that being said, this Waterboys cover is a big bag of wow.  Her raspy, semi-unhinged vocal work here is something else.

Empty Country – Marian

Cymbals Eat Guitars are officially dead, which is unfortunate, but at least frontman Joseph D’Agostino is now fully focused on the potentially-just-as-good Empty Country.  Check out a sprawling new one here, and then make a note to look out for the act’s self titled album in February.

Tacocat – Retrograde

I’m still largely undecided in regards to how I feel about Tacocat’s 2019 album, This Mess Is A Place, but I know for sure that I dig this one-off single that they just released.  So catchy!

Deerhunter – Timebends

I admittedly wasn’t looking forward to hitting play on this 13-minute track from Deerhunter.  I just assumed that – for whatever reason – it was going to be a noisy, experimental thingy, but it’s actually a classic rock-tinged jam.  Turn it up, man.

Wow, that Fiona Apple track is awesome. Her voice is perfect for it. The Haim song is also very good. I don’t have 13 minutes for any song (nor 6, really, for the Empty Country song).
