Quickdraw: Mark Ronson & Angel Olsen, The Hold Steady, Sheer Mag, Frankie Cosmos, B Boys
Enjoy.
Mark Ronson & Angel Olsen – True Blue
It makes me happy that Angel Olsen is now big enough to do songs with Mark Ronson. You can find their nifty collaboration on Ronson’s new album, Late Night Feelings, which just came out on Friday.
The Hold Steady – Denver Haircut
After a year or so of releasing singles, The Hold Steady have finally announced an album. It’s called Thrashing Thru The Passion, and it’ll be out on August 16. One of its five new/previously unreleased tracks is here and it’s good.
Sheer Mag – Blood From A Stone
Sheer Mag are going to roll out their sophomore album, A Distant Call, on August 23. The first single sounds like … Sheer Mag, which is a good thing. By the way, the band is going to play Barracuda on September 26.
Frankie Cosmos – Windows
Greta Kline has one of my favorite voices, so I’m always down for new stuff from Frankie Cosmos. The band’s fourth LP, Close It Quietly, is due out September 6.
B Boys – Pressure Inside
Here’s a Parquet Courts-like track from B Boys that I haven’t been able to get out of my head for the last few days. It’s off their upcoming album, Dudu, which is being released on July 26. They’re playing Hotel Vegas on October 10.
Frankie Cosmos is very catchy. Perfect summer song.
I almost always find Angel Olsen sleep inducing, even here with Mark Ronson. His song with Miley Cyrus on vocals is superior to this one.
