Quickdraw: Pedro The Lion, Deerhunter, Cass McCombs

Enjoy.

Pedro The Lion – Yellow Bike

Hearing David Bazan’s glorious voice in any capacity is a treat, but when it’s with Pedro The Lion … well, that’s just as good as it gets.  The band will release Phoenix, their first album in 14 years, on January 18.

Deerhunter – Death In Midsummer

The press release for the upcoming Deerhunter album, Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? (due January 18), reads like something you’d see in Spinal Tap.  There’s talk of reinventing approaches to microphones, nostalgia is referred to as a toxic concept and so on.  Honestly I don’t have a clue as to what the band is going on about in it, but I do know that the new single is a winner.

Cass McCombs – Sleeping Volcanoes

Here’s a lovely rambler from Cass McCombs.  Make a note to pick up Tip Of The Sphere when it gets released on February 8.

Never been a Cass McCombs fan, but I liked this track the first time I heard it. It made me go back and appreciate 2007’s “That’s That.”

I am agnostic on the Deerhunter track and underwhelmed by Pedro the Lion.
