Quickdraw: Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Cullen Omori, She & Him, Parquet Courts, Snail Mail
Enjoy.
Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks – Refute (Featuring Kim Gordon)
I think the latest tune off of Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks’ upcoming album, Sparkle Hard (due May 18), is my favorite of the three that have been released so far. Malkmus (and Kim Gordon!) dipped in a bit of twang just hits the spot. Catch the act at the Mohawk on July 25.
Cullen Omori – Four Years
Cullen Omori (formerly of the Smith Westerns) hasn’t yet announced a follow-up to his 2016 solo debut, New Misery, but I imagine it’ll happen soon since he just rolled out a shimmery new track. I’m excited.
She & Him – He Gives Her Love To Me/She Gives Her Love To Me
M. Ward and Zoeey Deschanel are somewhat back as She & Him. I say somewhat because they rolled out two new songs, but they’re essentially the same. Also, they’re for a project called Universal Love and not an album of their own. Catchy stuff though.
Parquet Courts – Mardi Gras Beads
The more I hear off of Parquet Courts‘ upcoming LP, Wide Awake! (due 5/18), the more excited I get for it. Danger Mouse seems to have taken them up a good level or two.
Snail Mail – Heat Wave
You guys paying attention to Snail Mail? I think they’re debut album, Lush (due June 8), is going to be one of the year’s best. Jump on the bandwagon now. The band will be at Barracuda on July 5.
