Star Parks (Jennifer)
Just before the end of last year I found a new favorite local band – they call themselves Star Parks, and they’re led by lead singer and guitarist Andy Bianculli (previously a member of The Preservation). If you were a fan of The Preservation, you will probably enjoy Star Parks. They pass on the torch of dreamy pop/rock and harmony filled songwriting. Influences such as 60s psych pop and folk are peppered throughout their arrangements. I’ve only seen one of their shows, but I was immediately impressed by the strength of those soaring harmonies and the musicianship of the entire band.
Their debut album, Don’t Dwell, is set for release on January 31. There are a couple of opportunities to see them in Austin this month. They’re playing the 101X Homegrown Live showcase this Saturday at Empire Control Room and a local triple bill at Holy Mountain on Thursday, January 22. Their joyous melodies may be just what you need to ward off that winter chill and melancholy.
