Joanna Gruesome

Joanna Grueome are a band that’s really been a delight for me in 2013.  I’ve loved their singles, I think Weird Sister is a good album, and now I’m really digging their cover of Galaxie 500’s Tugboat.  Check it out below while I continue to hope that they’ll make an appearance at SXSW.  The Sugarcrush 7″ is due out November 18 via Slumberland.  Enjoy.

:Joanna Gruesome – Tugboat (Galaxie 500 Cover):  Admittedly, when I first saw that JG were covering Tugboat I wasn’t expecting much.  It’s a great song, and I just couldn’t imagine an upbeat retro/garage pop version of it.  Thankfully, that’s not what this is.  The band certainly puts their own spin on it, but it’s not one that loses the stellar tone of the original.
