Today's Quick Mention: Get ready to get
SXSW recommendations all over you. This week
the staff and myself will start mentioning at least
one artist a day that will be playing during the
biggest and craziest week on the planet.
Time for what you came here for. Enjoy.
:Toro
Y Moi - Dead Pontoon:
I'm rather used to Chaz Bundick leading something
that's funky and refined, so listening to this
experimental art-leaning track is a somewhat weird
experience. I will say this, though, it's
probably as charming as anything you'll find in the
band's catalog. Toro Y Moi will release the 7"
box set June 2009 on April 24 via Carpark.
:The
Coathangers - Smother:
I've shared a song or two from this act in the past,
but I've yet to really pay a ton of attention to
them. Time for that to change. This is a
super catchy song in every aspect, and I want more.
The band will release a split 7" with Davila 666 on
April 17 via Suicide Squeeze. I hope it's not
the only thing we get from them this year.

- Do It Again:
Here's a track that I apparently missed way back in
December. I normally wouldn't post something
so late, but the band just put out a nifty
video
that deserves a mention. Also, after just a
single listen I couldn't get it out of my head, and
I'd like for you to have the same problem. The
Do It Again 7" is currently available, and
the band is said to be working on a full length.
:Princeton
- Florida:
Whether you think this band is worth your time or
not, you can't deny that they're rather good at
making really pretty pop music. I mean, just
listen to this ear soothing number and try to
disagree. You can't! The fancily titled
Remembrance Of Things To Come is due out
February 21 via Hit City USA/Easter Everywhere.
I want it now.
:Brontide
- Matador:
Today's mix has been very pop heavy, so I'm throwing
in this instrumental rock number just to mess with
your mind. Expect to like it if you've ever
dug Russian Circles, Pelican, or Don Caballero.
This trio will put out Sans Souci, which is
their debut full length, in the US later this year.
If I'm correct it's already available in the UK.
