Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Keanu Reeves has signed on to star in Generation Um, which follows three friends as they leave behind their life of sex, drugs and in decision and go on a path of self-discovery.

Hereafter has a trailer.  Not sure what to think.

John McTieran has agreed to direct Shrapnel.  The film is said to follow two war veterans bent on finding and killing each other.

Talk about crazy.  It's the trailer for Hobo With A Shotgun.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower series is being adapted into a film trilogy and a TV show.  Ron Howard will direct.  Akiva Goldsmith will produce.

Pixar is rumored to be interested in doing an animated adaptation of the Marvel comic Doctor Strange.

Monsters now has a much better and more interesting trailer.  Check it out.

Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) has been cast in Drive.  Ryan Gosling is already set to star in the movie about a stunt driver who doubles as a getaway driver.

Microsoft is said to be still hard at work on a Halo movie.

The new trailer for MegaMind almost seems like a totally different movie.  Weird.

Martin Freeman is supposedly in the midst of trying to work out schedule issues so that he can play the role of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.

Michael Caine will join Dwayne Johnson in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.  It's the sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth.  Sad.

I've actually never seen a Saw film ... and the trailer for the upcoming entry doesn't make me want to.

Despite having already started shooting, Liam Neeson has been added to the cast of Peter Berg's Battleship.

Now that Angelina Jolie has officially turned it down, Natalie Portman has reportedly been offered the highly sought after role in Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity.

It's strange to me that Paul Bettany keeps getting cast in action movies, but the trailer for Priest is kind of fun.

Bruce Campbell has expressed interest in putting together a horror version of The Expendables.

Joaquin Phoenix is said to be looking for roles now that his mockumentary I'm Still Here is out.

So, Country Sound has a new trailer.  Fortunately, it shows the entire movie so that you don't actually have to ever sit through it.

Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is joining everything these days.  His latest project is Virtue Fall, which also stars Eric Bana and deals with a federal agent looking to get revenge on the partner who had him put in prison.

A biopic for Ronald Reagen is currently in the scripting stages.
