When I told my roommate I was leaving for Chicago this weekend, he left me with these words of wisdom: "Dude, go meet Kanye."  Figuring I could spot the man’s ego from the descent into O’Hare, I didn’t expect the search to take me very long, but unfortunately the catalogue of pictures of me partying with Kanye have yet to be taken.  Hopefully, my last 24 hours in the old Windy City will change that.

For now though, we’ll all just have to settle for some new Austin music.

Diagonals - Valley Of The Cyclops

As if the lyrics for this song off Diagonal’s debut aren’t graphic enough, the band (along with the help of director Max Juren) put this little video together to compliment lyrics about loneliness, sexual tension, drinking, sagging tits, one night stands and much more.  Aside from all the sexin’, Neil Diamond Blues also features the dark guitar-based rock and New Order-era drum beats that the Diagonals have incorporated into their sound so successfully.  Their debut album, Valley of the Cyclops (which this song comes from), came out just recently, and if that last number caught your ear I’d suggest looking into the whole album.  And if anyone can figure out what this video is all about, please let me know.

Wine And Revolution - Edward The Magnificent

A few months back I totally missed a Wine and Revolution show that they’d invited me to go see (don’t blame me, blame Austin traffic, which shouldn’t be as bad as it is at 9 o’clock in the evening).  Unfortunately, their new EP makes me feel like even more of an asshole for not making it out to the show.  The band have made incredible progress since I was first introduced to them (through a member who worked with my girlfriend, actually), and it’s nice to see all that "direction" finally payoff in this six song EP.  Take this track Trees as a sample of the bands charged guitar riffs that could easily dissolve into garage-rock, but also the quirkiness that adorns what might otherwise be less interesting music.  Lucky for us, less interesting isn’t going to be a problem for Wine and Revolution, who I can only hope will be around
Austin promoting the new EP with shows I can attend.

That’s all for this week folks.  I’m currently working on getting my record player up and running so I can check out the new 7-inch from Bill Baird for next time around.  Word on the street is that it’s good, but I wouldn’t know because my turntable sounds like its insides are being ripped apart.  Also, stay tuned for Kanye pictures.
