Yesterday, as I was listening to some Mp3s that I had downloaded over the last few weeks I came across an artist by the name of Laura Gibson.  I pretty much instantly fell for Laura's earthy, folk sound and then, to much of my dismay,  when I went to research her I came to find out that her album, If You Come To Greet Me, actually dropped way back in November of last year and Laura's tour, in support of that disc, ended yesterday.  It's amazing how sometimes you can just completely miss the boat on stuff.  In any case I decided that Laura was someone that I really wanted to share with all of you, or at least those who may have missed out like I did.  Enjoy the music and be sure to remember that Hush Records is where Laura calls home if you are interested in picking up her disc.

:Laura Gibson - Hands In Pockets:  If Regina Spektor or Feist somehow managed to mate with Chan Marshall then I believe the outcome would probably sound something like Hands In Pockets.  The neatest part is that the vocals aren't the only thing that conjure thoughts of such a hybrid, even the music feels like a Chan song with Spektor/Feist style pop sprinkled all over it.  I suppose it's never to early to have a contender for my favorite 2006 album of 2007.

:Laura Gibson - Wintering:  Hands In Pockets may have been an entertaining little folk-pop number but Wintering is the type of song that makes you want to grab a seat and stare out a window as the rain pours down on a cold day.  It has a long runtime of six minutes but Laura is so enthralling with a voice that sounds like Chan in complete life reflection mode, and the music is so somber and delicate that the song often feels like two or three minutes.  I hope Laura makes a SXSW appearance this year.
