Quickdraw: Chain Cult, Ex-Void, Tan Cologne

Enjoy.

Chain Cult – Shallow Grave / Under The Gun

I’ve been wanting a new post punk act to obsess over, and I think I may have found one in Chain Cult.  The Greek act will be releasing their Shallow Grave EP on November 22.  Both of the songs here are catchy but fierce.

Ex-Void – Only One / Ex-Void

As you may recall, Ex-Void is lead by former Joana Gruesome members, Alanna McArdle and Owen “O” Williams, and like the band they were once a part of, their sound slides between power pop and punk.  Only One is the main focus here, but I like its b-side – Ex Void – as well.

Tan Cologne – Cave Vaults On The Moon In New Mexico

Lauren Green (formerly of Austin-based acts Mirror Travel and Follow That Bird) and artist Marissa Macias are the duo behind New Mexico’s Tan Cologne.  Their debut single is a dreamy gem, and I’m excited to hear more.  By the way, the band is playing Levitation next weekend.

What a contrast between the two Ex-Void songs. I greatly prefer the pop of “Only One” while highly disliking the screaming of “Ex-Void.” I am too old to enjoy people yelling at me but not so old I cannot love the timeless catchiness of power pop.
