Quickdraw: Xiu Xiu, Party Dozen, Jade Hairpins, Bright Eyes, Sex Week
Enjoy.
Xiu Xiu – Common Loon
The ever-prolific Xiu Xiu are at it again with a new album – the breezily titled 13″ Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips will be out on September 27. Honestly, this isn’t a band that’s always hit for me, but when they do – like with this entrancing single – I can’t get enough. By the way, if you’re in Austin, they’re playing the Parish on September 30.
Party Dozen – The Big Man Upstairs
I tend to think of Party Dozen as purveyors of noise, so I was surprised by the less chaotic, shoegaze-leaning sound on this track – I like it a lot though. Their new album is aptly titled Crime In Australia and it’s set to be released on September 6.
Jade Hairpins – Drifting Superstition
Here’s a classic rock-tinged gem off the recently announced Jade Hairpins album, Get Me The Good Stuff, which is due out on September 13. While you’re at it, you should also listen to the snazzy track they put out earlier this year.
Bright Eyes – Bells And Whistles
With Conor Oberst being the enigma that he is, I’m always pleasantly surprised when a new Bright Eyes album comes along – Five Dice, All Threes is the title of their follow-up to 2020’s Down In The Weeds Where The World Once Was, and it’ll be out on September 20. This is a raucous and catchy single.
Sex Week – Cockpit
Sex Week have announced a self-titled EP that will be released on August 30. I really love the way this song steadily builds into a full soar.
