Movie Breakdown: Ticket To Paradise
Pre-Screening Stance:
Honestly, the trailers for Ticket To Paradise haven’t done a whole lot for me, but hey, it’s George Clooney and Julia Roberts, and that’s reason enough for me to give it a spin.
Post-Screening Ramble:
As of late, I’ve spent a good chunk of time rolling my eyes at nearly everything related to Bros. Not because I didn’t like the movie – I truly thought it was great – but the whole “it’s groundbreaking” marketing angle and Billy Eichner’s constant whining just seemed unnecessary. Well, with the arrival of Ticket To Paradise, one of the most squeaky clean, predictable, and harmless rom-coms in a long while, let’s just say I may be ready to come around on why the Bros team took such a staunch stand on the other side of the tracks.
Now, with all that being said, I actually had a just-fine time with Ticket To Paradise. The story is centered around David (George Clooney) and Georgia (Julia Roberts), exes who must get over their enormous dislike for one another in order to team up and stop their daughter (Arielle Carver-O’Neill) from marrying someone she only recently met (while on a post-graduation vacation). It doesn’t go as planned. No way, right?
Again, this is a innocuous film that offers no surprises, but the ride is a rather pleasant one. Clooney and Roberts are – of course – total pros, and they look as though they’re genuinely having a good time sharing the screen together. The film, which is set in Bali, offers up a lot of beautiful scenery, so it’s easy on the eyes. I laughed every now and again and even found myself a bit teary eyed when everything inevitably got wrapped up in the sweetest of ways.
Ultimately, is this film going to win any awards? No. But I’ll give it full credit for being unoffensive and making me smile.
Ticket To Paradise opens in theaters this Friday, October 21.
