Quickdraw: Sleater-Kinney, Ty Segall, Jeff Rosenstock, Vivian Girls, Fujiya & Miyagi

Enjoy.

Sleater-Kinney – The Center Won’t Hold

I like this new one from Sleater-Kinney, but it’s a somewhat odd choice for a single.  My guess is that its industrial-esque sound likely works better in the context of the album.  In any case, The Center Won’t Hold is due out on August 16.  The band is set to play ACL Live on November 9.

Ty Segall – Ice Plant

This slow burner from Ty Segall is spectacular.  I sometimes forget that the guy can legit sing.  His new album, First Taste, is due out on August 2.

Jeff Rosenstock – Monday At The Beach

Jeff Rosenstock recently posted this minute-long gem … as an mp3.  Who does that anymore?  Once upon a time it was the only way anything was shared, but now it’s all about streaming outlets.  Anyhow, expect it to get lodged in your head.

Check out the song HERE.

Vivian Girls – Sick

Well look at that, Vivian Girls are back.  The band’s new album, Memory (their first in eight years) will be out on September 20.  Judging by the first single, they’ve still got it.

Fujiya & Miyagi – Fear Of Missing Out (Erasure Remix)

I love Fujiya & Miyagi and Erasure, so I’m all about them joining up for this remix of Fear Of Missing Out.  Now, if only I could get them to play Austin together.

I find nothing redeeming about the Sleater-Kinney track. When would one ever feel comfortable listening to it? Not during dinner, nor in the evening, nor driving or commuting. Perhaps while mowing the grass because it is about as pleasant as a roaring lawn mower or leaf blower. Only redeeming feature is that their usual screeching vocals do not start until the 2:30 mark.
