Quickdraw: St. Vincent, Toth, Sune Rose, Charly Bliss, Broken Social Scene, Sharon Van Etten
St. Vincent – Slow Slow Disco
First there was Slow Disco, then Fast Slow Disco, and now there’s Slow Slow Disco. I like them all equally, so I’m fine if St. Vincent just keeps churning out a new version every few months. By the way, be sure to see her at ACL this weekend.
Toth – Copilot
Toth is Alex Toth from Rubblebucket, and he’ll be releasing his debut album next year. His new single has a line that I really like – “I thought you were my copilot / But now I know you were just taking me for a ride.”
Sune Rose – After All
Sune Rose (of The Raveonettes) just released a new track. He apparently “wanted to to make an epic song about doomed love using big guitars and great vocal harmonies.” I think he nailed it.
Charly Bliss – Heaven
Here’s a sugary sweet new one from Charly Bliss. It’s very quickly become my favorite song by them.
Broken Social Scene – Old Dead Young
If you have Broken Social Scene’s Hug Of Thunder on vinyl, then you’re already in the know on this track (since that’s where it’s exclusively been living). If you don’t, then you should snatch it up because it’s really good.
Sharon Van Etten – Comeback Kid
Well look who’s back! The first single off of Sharon Van Etten’s Remind Me Tomorrow (due January 18) is big and commanding, and I like it.
I am not hearing anything sugary or sweet from the Charly Bliss track. It was not like what I expected then I realized that I confuse Charly Bliss with Charlie XIX which is my fault. Still, I am not digging the Charly Bliss song, pre-conceived notions/mixed identities notwithstanding.
