Residual Kid (Jennifer)
Austin grunge/punk trio Residual Kid released their version of The Easybeats 1966 hit Friday On My Mind yesterday as a tribute to their friend Miri Hyman, who passed away from breast cancer on July 4. The band explains on the song’s donation site that Miri posted a message a few months ago on their Facebook page with a special request – every time she listened to one of her favorite songs, she wished that Residual Kid would cover it and make it their own. So, they recorded the song and made a music video for her. It is available as a “name your price” download. 100% of the song’s proceeds will go to support the charities – Hospice Austin and Livestrong Foundation – that provided care and support for Miri.
This Saturday you also have a chance to catch one of their raucous live performances as they kick off their summer tour and celebrate the 16th birthday of band member Deven Ivy at Empire Control Room and Garage. Cunto, Obscured by Echoes and Carl Sagan’s Skate Shoes make up the rest of the bill. The show is FREE for 21+ ($5 under 21).
