Movie Breakdown: 2 Guns
People are doing traditional-style reviews all over the web, so we decided to try something different. In each “breakdown” we’ll take a look at what a film’s marketing lead us to believe, how the movie actually played, and then what we learned from it all. Read on!
The Impression:
Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are buddy thugs in the big screen version of 2 Guns, a graphic novel that’s currently ranked #104,487 in “books” on Amazon.
The Reality:
It’s not possible to have any sort of real expectations for a movie called 2 Guns, so I’ll admit that I went in with a “let’s just see what happens” sort of attitude. Unfortunately, this still wasn’t enough leeway for the film. 2 Guns is a thoroughly generic action effort with nothing going for it except some solid chemistry between Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. This, as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, is not enough to recommend that you run off to the theater. On the other hand, I will say that one day you’ll catch 2 Guns on TNT, and you’ll somewhat happily watch it while wondering what else you should be dong.
The Lesson:
Not every graphic novel needs to be adapted.
