Musical
discoveries seem a little bit sweeter when you stumble
across them and you're not concerned with any buzz or hype.
Earlier this month, I attended a mini-fest known as Rockaway
Beach Party at Spider House Cafe, and I got there early
enough to see a local quartet by the name of
Good Field. The
airy, shimmery vibe of the songs filled the room as they
played the tiny stage inside the cafe that was lit only by
the sunlight filtering through the window shades.
Sometimes I can
be stubborn when it comes to catching on to local acts that
friends and acquaintances are raving about to me, and that's
exactly what happened with
Bobby Jealousy. In the end, after seeing
them play live a few times and listening to their
debut album, A Little Death, I let
my defenses down and went about becoming a fan. They
combine glam, punk, rock, pop, and soul into a delectable
musical stew, and the energy from their live set is
infectious and incredibly fun. I also especially like
the three lead singers who play off of and harmonize with
each other in a seamless fashion.
