Today's Quick Mention: Heads up!
Until SXSW is over (3/18), don't expect any new
content around here. Today is it. The
festival will now consume us all. We love you.
Pray we are able to return.
Five new songs to remember us by. Enjoy.
:Eternal
Summers - Heart Squeeze:
I've never heard this track, but apparently it's
from an EP that this Virginia-based duo put out back
in 2009. The effort, of course, is being
reissued (along with some other previously
unavailable stuff), and that means I get to treat it
like it's new. Hooray! Expect to dig it
if you like fuzzy retro pop. The Dawn Of
Eternal Summers will be released on April 21 via
Kanine Records.
:Mr.
Gnome - The Way:
Back in February I recommended catching this act at
SXSW, and now here they are with a stellar new
track. It's like they knew exactly when to
provide a friendly reminder to see them during the
festival. In any case, I highly recommend
grabbing a nice pair of headphones for this well
crafted beast. Softly Mad is due out
March 20 via El Marko Records.
:Suckers
- Turn On The Sunshine:
Every time I
listen to this track I have a moment at the very
beginning where I find the vocals to be annoyingly
goofy ... and then that always quickly transitions
to me singing-a-long and thinking it's a fantastic
little pop effort. Weird, right? The
band will be at SXSW, and you can expect to see
Candy Salad on April 24 via Frenchkiss Records.
:King
Tuff - Bad Thing:
I need to listen to this band more.
I dig this fun little piece of garage pop (and I've
liked a variety of random singles in the past), but
for whatever reason I've never really put forth much
effort to check them out further. The band
will put out a self titled full length on May 29 via
Sub Pop. They're also expected to be playing
SXSW.
:Bobby
Womack - Please Forgive My Heart:
This is a beautiful track. Co-producers Damon
Albarn and Richard Russell did an absolutely great
job combining Bobby's raw voice with a slick, modern
arrangement, and I really can't wait to hear more.
XL Recordings will release The Bravest Man In The
Universe on the way too far away date of June
12.
