Once again I’m
partnering with my friends from the nation’s capital to host
the DC
Does Texas show at SXSW. This year we’ve
added more bands, a DJ, and even more free beer. The show
will be at Lovejoys (604 Neches Street) on Wednesday, March
14th from noon to 6pm. This year’s lineup was carefully
selected to reflect the diverse music scene in DC. Check it
out.
DOORS OPEN AT NOON
DJ Baby Alcatraz kicks things off and plays between bands!
Pree (12:10-12:45)
Guitarist May Tabol formed Pree after her former band (Le
Loup) called it a day. While Pree’s mix of folk,
electronics, and layered melodies make for a fascinating
listen, the real highlight is May’s distinctive singing
voice. It’s warm, intimate, and even a little mesmerizing.

- Lemon Tree:
Hume (1:00-1:35)
Hume plays prog-rock that retains a sense of spontaneity.
While the music has an expansive and sprawling sound, it's
also tight and concise. They achieve this by stripping their
songs down to the core and then adding layers of art-rock,
shoegaze, and stoner rock on top.

Deleted Scenes
(1:50-2:25)
Definitely one of DC’s most high profile bands, Deleted
Scenes have spent the past few years touring the country in
support of their two excellent albums, Birdseed Shirt
and Young People’s Church of the Air. They’ve managed
to visit Austin quite a few times and each time they’ve seen
the size of their crowds grow. It’s for good reason too.
They put on an engaging live show which usually sends people
scurrying to the merch table to buy their records.

Scenes - The Days Of Adderall:
Soccer Team
(2:40-3:15)
Soccer Team is Ryan Nelson and Melissa Quinley. The two have
been mainstays on the DC music scene for years, having
played in bands such as Beauty Pill, the Routineers, and The
Most Secret Method. In November the group released a three
song EP which is the long awaited follow up to their 2006
lo-fi album, Volunteered Civility And Professionalism.
Soccer Team’s appearance at SXSW is a rare chance to catch
the band live.

Team - Traffic Patterns:
Noon:30
(3:30-4:05)
A power trio of three women, noon:30 has been turning heads
up and down the East Coast. Known for their soulful vocals
and post-punk grooves, this band is sure to make an
impression. Personally, it’s the act I’m most excited to see
at the DC Does Texas party.

- Orphane (Adam Thompson Remix):
Edie Sedgwick
(4:20-5:00)
Edie Sedgwick (named after the model who died of an overdose
in 1971) is another great example of the diverse music
coming out of DC. The band is fronted by Justin Moyer who
began performing in drag as Edie Sedgwick back in 2004. His
(her?) earlier work consisted of catchy and amusing songs
about celebrities. Last year Edie released Love Gets
Lovelier Every Day,which is slinky, danceable,
and as fun a record as you’ll ever find.

Sedgwick - Sissy Spacek:
Kid Congo and The
Pink Monkey Birds (5:15-6:00)
Our headliners! Kid Congo is the legendary guitarist and
founding member of The Gun Club. He has also been a member
of The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and The Fall.
Kid Congo is now with his backing band the Pink Monkey Birds
and touring in support of Gorilla Rose. The album is an
inspired mix of genres from punk to surf rock to krautrock
and even rockabilly. The record pulls from the impressive
musical past of Kid Congo, and it shows he’s still an
innovator and at the top of his game. Do not miss this
performance!
