I’m going to be honest with you.

I don’t have a lot to say right now. Midterms and SXSW have collided in a really unfortunate manner, and I’m having a tough week. I don’t have a lot of inspiration.

However, when the going gets tough, there is one song that never fails to help me out. And that is this song:

:The Mountain Goats - This Year:

I think 2012 has been a tough year for a lot of people in Austin. But I also know there was a sold out crowd at the Mountain Goats show at Antone’s in February. There were a lot of very sweaty happy people, including myself, that sang along, yelled along, and fist pumped to this song and took a lot of solace in it. John Darnielle is one of the masters of depressing music ... but this song, it is pure hope.

"I am going to make it through this year, if it kills me."

This song is simple, it’s upbeat, and it’s real. Maybe you won’t find the love that he does in this song; maybe you won’t play video games or have a driveway car crash or break free on a Saturday. But I know one thing; whether you are freaking out about midterms or whether this is the best time of your life; you will make it through this year. And I will too. And I will make it through this week. Because guess what? At the end of midterms and before SXSW begins, I get to go to Denton and see the Mountain Goats at 35 Denton. Along with Best Coast, Built To Spill, Dum Dum Girls, and a lot of other great bands. And if you’ve been reading my posts, you’ll know that’s just dreamy.

And really, if this song makes you feel even a fraction of the comfort that it gives me, then this post has achieved everything this temporarily uninspired girl could want.
