Today's Quick Mention: Tonight I'll be
catching a screening of John Carter.
I've heard good things so far, but who knows if it's
going to be good or not. A review will be up
in the film section tomorrow.
Music if fun! Enjoy.
:THEESatisfaction
- Enchantruss (Featuring Shabazz Palaces):
I've never
spent much time with Shabazz Palaces (or any of
their cohorts), so I can't say I went into my first
listen of this with any sort of expectations.
That won't be the case next time. This is a
cool effort that's difficult to take off repeat.
Awe Naturale is due out March 27 via Sub Pop.
The duo that makes up THEESatisfaction will also be
at SXSW.
:Bryan
Scary - Ziegfield Station:
While I'm thrilled that Bryan Scary is back, I'm
also feeling some guilt for not being aware that the
act had readied a new full length. Shame on
me. In any case, they're still doing retro
rock in a thoroughly infectious way, and that's a
very good thing. Daffy's Elixir is
currently available on Paper Garden Records.
Let's all go get it.
:The
Dandy Warhols - Well They're Gone:
I have to admit that the arrival of this song was a
pleasant surprise. I haven't spent any sort of
real time with a Dandy Warhol's effort in quite a
long time, but this headphone worthy number
immediately convinced me that it's time for that to
change. You'll be able to find This Machine
on April 24 via The End Records.
:Regina
Spektor - All The Rowboats:
Regina's last album may not have done much for me,
but I can't deny that this track has me excited for
her upcoming LP. I love its quick pace and how
the lyrics aren't packed with a slew of cute one
liners. Here's hoping the rest of the new
effort is like this. What We Saw From The
Cheap Seats is expected out at some point this
year via Sire Records.
:Autumn
Owls - Acrobatics Of A Patchwork Heart:
I really dig this well layered gem, so I was a bit
bummed when its press release mentioned it was just
an odd, out of place demo the band had mastered for
fun. I want more! Oh well. The
band will reportedly spill some details on
Between Buildings, Toward The Sea later this
year. Grab this one-off track while you can.
