Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Ben Stiller will star in Rentaghost.  The movie is said to follow a recently deceased man who starts leasing ghosts to the living.

Joe Taslim (The Raid) has landed a role in Fast Six.

JJ Abrams is set to produce a movie titled Earthquake.  Dustin Lance Black (Milk) will pen the script.  No word yet on the plot.

Doug Liman (Mr. And Mrs. Smith) will direct an adaptation of Time And Again.  The book follows a time traveler that falls in love with a woman in the past.

Ridley Scott is going to produce a film based on the documentary The Day Britain Stopped.

Jay Baruchel is close to landing a role in Robocop.

Edgar Wright is set to direct Collider for JJ Abrams.  The plot is unknown, but the film is being described as sci-fi.

Lady Gaga has landed a role in Machete Kills.

Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. are said to now be having serious conversations about putting together a third Hobbit film.

Because of the Aurora shooting, Gangster Squad is undergoing re-shoots and being bumped to January.

Denzel Washington is set to star in an adaptation of the TV show The Equalizer.

Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce may star in The Rover.  The movie is said to follow a man who is robbed by a gang, and then he forces one of their injured members to help him retrieve the item.

Martin Campbell is trying to do an adaptation of the TV show Blake's 7.

Russell Crowe is set to direct a movie based on the life of Bill Hicks.
