Side One Track One is a proud sponsor of the the Sour Notes
tour kickoff show this Saturday at Red 7. The band is
celebrating in style with a massive bill that includes 14
(!!) acts playing for your viewing and listening pleasure.
The Sour Notes summer tour is in support of their excellent
Last Looks album as well as their Wait/White
7-inch split with
Marmalakes, which was released this
winter. Their half of the 7-inch, Two Hands Wait, is
a song that will also appear on their upcoming album Do
What May.
I’ve seen the Sour Notes in concert about four or five times
now and they never fail to impress. In fact they only get
better and better. They’re one of Austin’s most talented
bands and definitely one of the hardest working. They hone
and perfect their prog pop style while continuing to branch
out to create new sounds. But not only does the group
feature incredible musicianship and knack for hooks, their
live show is pretty great.

Also on bill on Saturday are other SOTO favorites: Royal
Forest, The Midgetmen, and Burgess Meredith. I’m personally
looking forward to seeing Growl kick things off on the
outside stage. Their jangly and loose brand of indie rock is
right in my musical wheelhouse. It’s a mixture surf and
power pop with a dusting of lo-fi and garage rock. The band
is offering free downloads of its new
EP
entitled Demonstration, and I highly recommend you
give it a listen or twelve.
