As much as I
love my favorite Austin acts, I also have a soft spot for
guitar pop bands from New Zealand. Thanks to some lazy
nighttime browsing on Twitter (credit goes to this
guy), I discovered
The Eversons. Their
debut album, Summer Feeling, is appropriately titled
- it sounds warm, sunny, carefree, and fun. It should also
include a warning label that says it "may induce giddy
singalongs."
One of the LP's highlights is the lead track, Could It
Get Any Better? with its infectious call and response
verse and chorus. Its sunny vibe masks the more somber
musings of getting older ("could it ever get better?/it
never gets better!"). The video for this track looks like a
school craft project gone wild using stop animation with
felt and yarn. Another favorite is Creepy, which is a
humorous tale of an overeager Romeo and his friends telling
him to cut it out. With harmony filled songs chock full of
guitar hooks and plenty of dry wit and humor, The Eversons
should become part of your no-bummer summer soundtrack.

Eversons - Could It Ever Get Better?:
Another perfect
addition to your summer soundtrack is the London UK based
psych pop quintet,
The See See. They recently released their
second album, Fountayne Mountain, on the Dell'Orso/Great
Pop Supplement label.
The first single, Gold And Honey, features soaring
harmonies and sparkling, jangly guitars that are sure to
brighten your day and have you coming back for more.
Sweet Hands is also filled with gorgeous harmonies, but
it has a more psychedelic vibe with its sounds of swirling
organ and heavy bass riffs. The See See skillfully blend
influences ranging from 60s psych to 70s powerpop and 90s
Britpop into a rather enjoyable listen. Heavenly guitar pop
bliss interspered with darker, sinister moments underneath.
Fingers crossed for them to be added to the Austin Psych
Fest lineup for 2013.
