Two
years ago Fanfarlo was a sparkle-eyed fledgling with
the potential to cement themselves into indie canon.
Reservoir was one of those epic debut albums
that you had to know, and there was a sense that
even greater things were to come.
Now arrives Rooms Filled With Light, an epic
sophomore follow-up that's just as good as their
debut. When they had teased us months back with the
opening track of Replicate, I thought things
were going to stroll down the darker path of
maturation. I’m more than glad to admit that my
forecast, however, was wrong. As it had always been
with Fanfarlo, there’s a quirkiness in their music
that’s unexpected; an air of disenchantment that’s
peculiar. Rather than being blatant and
ostentatious, characteristics of their music are
inlaid and organic. Their follow-up is every bit
Fanfarlo with even more to love. It’s a beautiful
long-play fit for letting loose to roam about the
background of your day with songs that are just as
commanding to warrant stand-alone listening. Simply
put, Rooms Filled With Light is just an
absolute charmer of an album, and I can’t recommend
it enough.
