Today's Quick Mention: Don't forget
that if you're looking for a show or two to catch
this weekend you can check out the SOTO Facebook
page
for recommendations!
Five tracks for you. Enjoy.
:Santigold
- Disparate Youth:
Santigold's lengthy absence had me a bit worried
about her sophomore full length, but both of the
songs released so far have been really good. Here's
hoping she still has a handful or two of gems up her
sleeve. The highly anticipated Master Of My
Make-Believe is expected to be released at some
point in 2012 (maybe April/May?).
:Reptar
- Sebastian:
This act is about to become inescapable.
They're coming off an EP that was well received,
SXSW
is set to go well for them, and now they've released
this inspired track as the first single off their
debut album. Get on the bandwagon while you
can. Body Faucet is due May 1 via
Vagrant. For your convenience, they're playing
Stubb's
this Saturday. Go.
:Crocodiles
- Sunday (Psychic Conversation #9):
I like this band, but their discography has quite a
few moments where their sound is way too fuzzed out
for me. Judging by this catchy number, though,
such a style is now a thing of the past. Or
maybe not. It is, after all, only one track.
Endless Flowers is set to be released
everywhere June 5 via Frenchkiss Records.
:Whispertown
- Open The Other Eye:
Earlier this week a friend of mine mentioned that
this LA-based act is playing one of his SXSW shows,
and it reminded me that I hadn't yet shared this
track with you. Shame! Anyhow, if you
miss early Metric, then this is going to please your
ears. You'll be able to snatch up the
Parallel EP on March 20 via Acony Records.
:Cadence
Weapon - 88:
Where the hell has this guy been? I can't
remember the last time he churned anything out, and
that's just not good for the world. At all.
At any rate, this is a really cool track (that
features some work by Grimes, who is listed as the
producer), and I really hope there's more that will
be arriving shortly. If not, I may just do
something drastic.
