I've got some SXSW recommendations coming soon, but before that I just wanted to go ahead and mention the one showcase I have to attend.  I think I went to at least thirty different day shows, parties, and showcases at SXSW last year, but looking back only two truly stand out - the Dirtnap Records Showcase at Habana Calle and the Pitchfork showcase at Central Presbyterian. This year Pitchfork is featuring Fiona Apple (sorry, I’m not a fan), so the Dirtnap gathering is the one I’m most looking forward to. It’ll feature bands from various parts of Texas, Canada, and the Pacific Northwest and will be held on Saturday March 17th at Valahalla (formerly Room 710). I’ve written repeatedly about Mind Spiders and declared Something Fierce my favorite discovery of SXSW 2011.

As SXSW is winding down and your tired as shit from hopping from show to show, do your yourself a favor and settle in Valahalla for all the goodness that Dirtnap has to offer. If you’re a fan of garage and punk rock, there’s no better place to be.
