Today's Quick Mention: Frankie Rose is
getting all sorts of buzz this year, so you might as
well stay ahead of the curve by giving her new album
a listen. The LP is titled Interstellar,
and it can be streamed over at Spin's
site.
Music for your neighbor's ears. Enjoy.
:The
Shins - September:
By this point I'm sure you're well aware of the
impending arrival of a new album by the Shins.
If you're not, then the rock you're living under
must be really comfortable. In any
case, this pop tune was clearly made to please ears,
so expect to like it. This is the b-side on
the Simple Song single, which is due out
February 14. The band's LP, Port Of Morrow,
is expected March 20 via Columbia.
:White
Rabbits - Temporary:
I like this band far too much to have completely
forgotten about their new album in the month that's
past since I shared the first single off of it, but
I do appreciate that this new, incredibly danceable
track has arrived to take them off the backburner of
my mind. You should totally turn this up way
loud. Milk Famous is due out March 6
via tbd Records.
:Maps
And Atlases - Winter:
This act's debut had a few parts that really
impressed me, but I never could get into the entire
thing. Hopefully, that'll change on their next
effort. I know they're certainly off to a good
start with this expansive gem. The band's
sophomore LP is titled Beware And Be Grateful,
and it's due everywhere on April 17 via Barsuk.
:Liechtenstein
- Ambitions:
It's been a few years since I heard from this
Swedish pop act, so I'm happy to see that they're
still chugging along. This, like so much of
their material, is as catchy as can be.
Fraction Discs released Fast Forward last
week, and they didn't even bother to tell me about
it. Shame on them. Oh well. Let's
all run out and grab the LP.
:Dana
Buoy - Call To Be:
Dana Janssen, who does percussion in Akron/Family,
has put together some solo material, and this is the
world's first taste. I dig it. There's
nothing about it that will blow your mind, but it's
well made and pretty good at getting lodged in your
head. The always steady Lefse will release
Summer Bodies on May 8.
