Today's Quick Mention: There are a ton
of good shows this weekend. Do yourself a
favor and head over to the SOTO
Facebook
page to see what's recommended.
Time to get the weekend started. Enjoy.
:These
United States - Born Young:
This DC-based act put out a new track a couple of
months ago, and now they're back with a second
single to promote their upcoming LP. It's a
rather upbeat and easy going little tune, so expect
to quickly find yourself liking it. The band's
new self titled full length is expected everywhere
on June 12 via United Interests.
:Ramona
Falls - Sqworm:
I can't recall
whether or not this song was played when I saw
Ramona Falls at SXSW, but I do clearly remember
really liking every new track that Brent Knopf and
the gang played. Their new full length is
going to be one fantastic listen. Trust me.
You will be able to get your hands and ears on
Prophet when Barsuk releases it on May 1.
:Black
Lips - Dance With You:
The last time I listened to the Black Lips they were
rocking a Mark Ronson-produced album and sounding
pretty polished. This, despite being a b-side
from said collection of material, is sloppy and a
certainly more in line with what the world is used
to from the band. I like it more than the
clean stuff. This is a random track to get you
excited about their festival appearances, so grab it
while you can.
:Diamond
Rugs - Country Mile:
Anytime that you get John McCauley (Deer Tick),
Robbie Crowel (Deer Tick), Ian Saint Pe (Black
Lips), Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), Hardy Morris (Dead
Confederate), and Bryan Dufresne (Six Finger
Satellite) in the same band, you have to like it at
least like them a little. Thankfully, such a
task is not difficult in the case of Diamond Rugs.
Their self titled debut is due April 24 via Partisan
Records.
:Field
Report - I Am Not Waiting Anymore:
I saw this band earlier in the week, and before they
were even a third of the way through their set I was
already planning on giving them a mention.
They have a pretty, mature sound, so give it a
listen only when you can dedicate your full
attention to them. They're expected to put out
an album at some point this year.
