Sometimes there are songs that make you feel free. They take weights off your heart. They remind you you’re not alone, and also make you feel like you’re running through fields of greatness, high-fiving baby bunnies. That’s pretty much how I feel about most songs by The Magnetic Fields.

My all time favorite MF song would have to be Epitaph For My Heart. This dreamy song is the beautiful acceptance of giving up and giving in. Stephin Merritt’s ultra low voice is the perfect compliment to this upbeat but doomy march of life. I wrote the lyrics of this on my wall to remind myself that no matter what, "life goes on and on and on." Plus, he name checks the Brill Building.

My current favorite off their latest album, Love At The Bottom of The Sea, is Quick. It's the ultimate Magnetic Fields; slightly distorted at times, yet still beautifully arranged, and lyrically devastating. Claudia Gonson’s voice shines over this light, repetitive song. Clocking in at a little over two minutes, this short and sweet tune is a warning to all lovers that MF doesn’t take BS.
