Today's Quick Mention: Tonight I'm off
to see the great At The Drive-In play at Red 7.
The surprise show randomly went on sale this past
Saturday, and I was able to snatch up a couple of
tickets. Lucky me. Anyone else manage to
work their way in?
Five songs to help you forget Easter. Enjoy.
:The
Fresh And Onlys - Do What I Came To Do:
As I said last week, Tim Cohen is busy guy.
He's got side project material coming via Magic
Trick, and now he's apparently prepping a new full
length with the Fresh And Onlys. Someone give
that guy a few overtime hours. This jangly
track won't be on the upcoming album, so be sure to
grab it while you can.
:TV
Girl - I Wonder Who She's Kissing Now:
I love TV Girl. They just make the warmest,
catchiest little pop tunes, and this new single is
no different. Be warned, there's no way that
this track doesn't find a way to get lodged in your
head for the rest of the week. The band is all
set to put out their debut full length before April
ends. It'll be entirely free, which is
awesome.
:White
Denim - Get Back To Love (Street Joy):
White Denim is at their best when they're loud and
entirely jammed out, but as the track shows, they
also know how to croon. Throwing on some
headphones before hitting play is highly
recommended. It may also help if you find some
to share a dance with. This is a one off
single that was put out to support WD's spring tour.

- Beautiful Life:
I've yet to
figure this act out. On occasion they sound
really good, and then there are plenty of other
times where I can't figure out what people are
raving about. It's weird. In any case,
this song is cool. I dig how it's actually
sort of accessible for them. This is off a
digital single that's expected to be released on May
8 via Secretly Canadian and Sincerely Yours.
:Poor
Moon - People In Her Mind:
I listened to this song two or three times and kept
thinking about how they sounded strangely similar to
Crystal Skulls. Then I found out there are
members of that band (and Fleet Foxes) in Poor Moon!
I'm a genius. Or I spend too much time doing
this stuff. Either way, this is a great pop
tune. You can get the Illusion EP on
Sub Pop now.
