Time to get off your ass and give back to the community! Don’t worry, doing good was never so easy or so enjoyable. Tonight Bill Callahan and Mother Falcon perform a benefit concert at The Mohawk, and I can’t recommend this show enough. For a mere $12 you not only do you get to enjoy some brilliant music, but you’ll be helping the homeless while you do it. There’s even an impressive after show on the inside stage featuring Good Town and Kendall Clark.

Few cities can claim a singer-songwriter as talented as Bill Callahan. For over 20 years he's been releasing music to critical acclaim, both as Smog and under his own name. However, if you happen to be uninitiated, there are two tracks below to get to acquainted with Mr. Callahan. The first thing you'll notice is the voice. It’s a haunting and truthful baritone delivered with little emotion, which makes it a perfect fit for the beautiful, yet dark lyrics and the lo-fi simplicity that make up just about every Callahan track.

While seeing both Callahan and Mother Falcon is motivation enough to head to the Mohawk tonight, you’ll want to stick around for the after show. First up is Kendall Clark, a talented drummer, producer, and composer. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Kendall perform as a member of Balmorhea, and I’m anxious to see his solo work. Based on the track below, he delves into a spooky type of electronic minimalism.

Also performing on the inside stage are Mina and Michael Soto, aka Good Town. This brother and sister duo plays charming folk-Americana with a twinge of country. The songs are anchored by Mina’s bewitchingly engaging voice. I was sent a couple of their tracks just yesterday and I must have listened to them at least two dozen times already. There’s just something about their music that makes me want to sit quietly in my house and drink bourbon.
