Today's Quick Mention: There's so much
to do this weekend. The Austin Film Festival
continues, the Austin Record Convention is going
down at the North Lamar Events Center, and there's
plenty of good shows. Tonight you'll find Battles at
Emo's East, Talib Kweli at the Mohawk, and Sleeping
In The Aviary at Hole In The Wall. As for
Saturday, Boats are at Beauty Bar and White Denim is
playing Stubb's. You could stay in Sunday ...
unless you like the Drums, who will be occupying the
Parish. Good luck out there, friends.
Let's do this. Enjoy.
:The
King Kahn Experience - I Got Love:
The best thing about any song carrying the King Kahn name is
that they're all totally plug and play. You just crank
the volume as loud as possible, hit go, and then start
dancing like a madman. It's so easy and convenient!
Anyhow, this track is from an EP titled Scion A/V
Presents The King Kahn Experience, which is due out on
October 25.
:The
Beets - Friends Of Friends:
I'm really digging this act. Yeah, it's the sort of
fuzzy pop we've all heard too much of over the last couple
of years, but their stuff is so damn catchy that it's hard
to not love. This is the latest single off the trio's
upcoming album, Let The Poison Out, which is due
October 24 via Hardly Art. On another note, they need
to add an Austin date to their tour. Someone get on
that.
:Chairlift
- Sidewalk Safari:
This song weirds me out. I didn't like it at all the
first time I gave it a listen, then I returned and found it
kind of interesting, and now I'm mostly sure it's an
okay track. So why share it? I don't
know. Maybe it's so you'll perhaps figure out why I
keep coming back to it. Something is expected
everywhere on January 24 via Columbia.
:Frightened
Rabbit - Scottish Winds:
This is a quick little number (it comes in at just under
three minutes), but I like that it's an ode to Scotland and
not the usual "that girl doesn't love me anymore" stuff that
FR tends to churn out. Plus, it's off a FREE EP, and
how could anyone not like that? By the way, you can
grab the freebie right over
here in exchange for some info.
:Jonny
Corndawg - Night Rider:
I know this guy willingly decided to call himself Jonny
Corndawg, and that should be frowned upon no matter what,
but you'll have to believe me when I say he's super
talented. Actually, you don't have to "believe me,"
you can just hit play and check out this pretty tune for
proof. His album is titled The Bikini Line, and
it is currently available.
