Today's Quick Mention: There aren't as
many shows as last week, but there is some good
stuff happening this weekend. Tonight you
could catch Revolver and Chateau Marmont at the
Mohawk, the Calm Blue Sea at ND, or Mr. Lewis And
The Funeral 5 at Skinny's Ballroom. As for
tomorrow, the Toro Y Moi show at the Mohawk is sold
out, so instead you should see John Wesley Coleman
III at Frontier Bar.
And in to the weekend we go. Enjoy.
:The
Bees - I Really Need Love:
This band is apparently known as "A Band Of Bees" in the US
and as The Bees everywhere else. Anyone know why?
I'd like to know. I'd also like to be in the loop on
why no one told me about this refreshing pop tune when it
came out last year. Shame on you all. The
deluxe reissue of Every Step's A Yes is due November
8 via ATO Records.
:Hurricane
Bells - Possibilities:
I've never considered Hurricane Bells to be a guilty
pleasure, but that thought has now found its way into my
head because of this slick number. I mostly blame the
guitar solo. The band will put out their sophomore
effort, Tides And Tales, on October 25 via Invisible
Brigades. They've also planned to send out a new track
every Monday this month, so maybe something as good as this
will come along soon.
:Acid
House Kings - Heaven Knows I Miss Him Now (Featuring Dan
Treacy):
The Acid House Kings churn out great pop music on their own,
so throwing Dan Treacy (of Television Personalities fame)
into the mix only makes things that much better. This
hails from the Heaven Knows I Miss Him Now 7", and it
is currently available through Labrador in exchange for
sweet cash.
:Blessed
Feathers - Winter Sister:
While rummaging through my inbox last night I came across an
email that featured this track, and I instantly became
enamored with it. Grab headphones, as it's a full
listen that's worthy of all the attention you can give it.
From The Mouths Of The Middle Class is currently
ready to be bought and loved from Listening Party Records.
:Vadoinmessico
- Teeo:
I still don't have a clue about how to pronounce this
artist's name, but I do know I really dig his music.
Marzia was a really cool track, and now this lush
number has entered my head and refuses to leave. Give
me more, please. You can expect to find the Teeo
single on Outcaste/Pias on November 14. I'm assuming
it'll have some other songs on it.
